Long multiplication method Examples & printable worksheets
How to use Long multiplication to solve multiplication expression?
Long method multiplication is also a partial products method without boxes. You expand the numbers in …/thousands/hundreds/tens/ones as in a grid or box method and multiply each part to get the partial products then you add them for the final answer.
Example: Use long multiplication to multiply 23 x 45
In the section Long multiplication method examples & printable worksheets, we’ll first begin with this 2-digit numbers multiplication.
Split up the two numbers by writing each as sums of tens and ones. That is,
For the number 23 you get 20 + 3
45 gives 40 + 5
Then write partial products of both tens and ones multiplying each other as follow:
20 x 40 = 800
20 x 5 = 100
3 x 40 = 120
3 x 5 = 15
800 + 100 + 120 + 15 = 1035
So the result of
23 x 45 = 1035
